Music Therapy at Montclair State University

Clinical Music Therapy Supervision: Dr. Viega offers clinical supervision for music therapy professionals who are interested in integrating popular music styles within their work, working with adolescents who have experienced trauma, and/or interested in utilizing digital music technologies in therapy. Online supervision is provided, and includes creating compositions and improvising using digital music technology to explore professional topics.

Lessons: Dr. Viega offers lessons for those who are interested in increasing competencies using digital music technology, or for guitar. Digital technology platforms include using Logic Pro or GarageBand for recording and music production, MPC LIve by Akai for sampling, a variety of Korg drum machines and samplers.

About

Michael Viega, Ph.D., LCAT, MT-BC, is an Associate Professor of Music Therapy at Montclair State University, and a Fellow in the Association of Music and Imagery. He has published and presented internationally on a wide range of topics such as adolescent development and music therapy, popular music cultures in music therapy, therapeutic songwriting and digital technology, and arts-based research methodologies. As a music therapy clinician, he has worked extensively with children and adolescents who have experienced childhood adversity and trauma. He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Applied Arts and Health.
